Freshly cooked and well worth the wait
I’d heard good things about Wingers in Carterton, so I decided to give it a try. I went for the Feast Bowl with garlic and parmesan sauce and added two extra chicken strippers for an extra £2. In total it came to £11, and after eating it, I came away pretty impressed.
One thing I noticed straight away was that everything is cooked fresh to order. It meant waiting around 15 minutes, but I’d much rather wait a little longer for freshly cooked food than have something that’s been sitting under a heat lamp.
When my order arrived, the bowl was absolutely packed. It was loaded with chicken, seasoned chips, fresh salad and crunchy coleslaw. It looked every bit as good as it tasted.
The chicken
The chicken was definitely the highlight of the meal. It was some of the best takeaway chicken I’ve had in a long time. Every piece was freshly cooked, crispy on the outside and really juicy inside. There wasn’t a single dry piece in the bowl.
The garlic and parmesan sauce worked brilliantly too. It added loads of flavour without drowning the chicken, giving it a rich, savoury taste that wasn’t too heavy. It complemented the crispy coating perfectly.
Chips and sides
The chips were just as good as the chicken. They arrived piping hot, nicely seasoned and stayed crispy throughout the meal. Combined with the chicken and sauce, every mouthful was full of flavour.
The fresh salad and crunchy coleslaw were a nice addition as well. They helped balance out what is quite an indulgent meal and stopped it feeling too heavy.
Portion size and value
One thing you definitely won’t be disappointed with is the portion size. Even after adding the extra chicken, I struggled to finish everything. It’s rare these days to order a takeaway and genuinely feel like you’ve had more than enough food.
At £11 including the extra strippers, I thought it offered decent value for money. It’s not the cheapest takeaway around, but you’re paying for freshly cooked food, quality ingredients and a portion that will satisfy even a big appetite.
Anything to improve?
The only real downside is the waiting time, but that’s simply because everything is cooked fresh. Personally, I don’t see that as much of a negative because the quality speaks for itself.
If I had one criticism, it would be the wings themselves. They’re tasty, but I do think they’re a little expensive for what you get compared to the excellent value of the Feast Bowl.
Overall
Wingers has quickly become one of my favourite takeaways in the area. The Feast Bowl was packed with freshly cooked chicken, generous portions and plenty of flavour, while the garlic and parmesan sauce really took it to another level.
If you’re after quality fried chicken rather than the usual fast-food chains, I’d happily recommend giving Wingers a try. The extra wait is more than justified, and I’ll definitely be going back.
